Are you a Pavlov dog?

April 1, 2018

I don’t suffer fools gladly. It seems that in this day and age common sense isn’t very common anymore and like the bell had Pavlov’s dog salivate, a certain stupidity gets me going. Its one of the things annoying me about my personality and something I am working on to be conscious about. Why?

In every life situation we are at choice how to react. However, over the years we do become conditioned to certain situations or types of behaviours and our reactions come subconsciously. It triggers me in being angry, arrogant or lecturing others. Simultaneously, my body shows a reaction like anger or any other unhealthy emotion. And you reap what you sow!

This is the same for flattering compliments. We often unconsciously feeling great. Remember Al Pacino in the Devil’s Advocate? “Vanity – is definitely my favourite sin”.

Now, the moment we are consciously witnessing the choices we are making, we are stepping back from the unconscious decision making. In that moment we can think about the consequences for us and others. Will that choice bring happiness to me and others or destruction?

To my clients I often say: “How could you surprise X, what is it, he/she doesn’t expect from you?”

There is always just one “right” choice to make and your heart knows which.

Ding! Ding! Ding!
